ABOUT WORK IN PROGRESS COUNSELING
Everyone is a work in progress, constantly growing and changing, but it’s important that we remember that who we are in this moment is amazing as well. Many people come to counseling with the idea that they are broken. Work In Progress is about helping people realize that they are always whole even if they aren’t quite finished yet. There are reasons that we are the way we are, and sometimes that stops working for us. When this happens it doesn’t mean we are broken just that we are ready for change. You don’t need to be fixed, but you may need to adjust or adapt and we can support you in that journey.
People do not have to be perfect to be deserving of love, respect, happiness and fulfillment. We continue to learn, grow and change throughout our lifetimes and are always able to discover new things about ourselves, other people, and the world around us. One of the greatest adventures in life is discovering who we are and who we will be in each season of our life.
Counseling can provide a space to learn and adapt with someone trained to help guide and support you. Our aim is to work collaboratively with you to help answer the questions that brought you to counseling and to empower you in living your most fulfilling, authentic life. The goal is to help you feel comfortable and safe to show up as your whole self and to meet you in kind authentically and without judgment. Starting therapy can be intimidating but it can also be one of the greatest gifts we give ourselves.
Lauren started Work In Progress Counseling in order to create a practice which offers counseling from affirming providers with a combination of lived experience and professional training; because sometimes it is nice to work with someone who just gets it. She knows how empowering and reassuring it is to speak to someone who is familiar with your identities and communities.

LAUREN BAYER, MS, LPC
I work with individuals aged fifteen and up. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, identity, life transitions, gender identity, sexual orientation, career/education choices, family of origin issues, and relationship issues. I utilize a client-centered approach and tailor sessions to the individual client. I believe in working with an entire person, not a diagnosis, and aim to work with them on their concerns, not on a preconceived notion of what I think they need. I incorporate EMDR, expressive arts techniques, skill building and Sandtray into my sessions when appropriate. I love a good metaphor and will turn your own words around to make my point.
